CHRISTOPHER MCKITTERICK

A Study in Pain Part IV: Roadkill

With a blow so hard it pressed soft
how screaming black it felt
covered with stars and a heavy crunch
tendons popping tensely from bones
softening cartilage
like pounding the hell out of salted venison
and you from me
the whole works crumbling
and tumbling
into the slime beneath the pavement
where we slither through it
like two trout in a dying stream.
